Nica Rustica Adobe - Drew Estate
After leaving the Nica Rustica line alone for some time, back in 2015 Drew Estate began working on reviving and updating this line of cigars. Over the last few years, they have updated it twice, adding the Adobe most recently. The name itself is meant to draw your attention to the construction material that is used prominently in Nicaragua. Jonathan Drew, President and co-founder of Drew Estate said it this way,
“The spicy and bold Habano, we call ‘Adobe’ offers smokers a glimpse into the distinguished beauty and bold character of Estelí and her people. You don’t need a passport to experience Estelí … just spark up this six-buck-chuck and you are magically transported to our proud Nicaraguan home.”
This cigar has everything you could possibly want in a cigar, including an incredibly attractive price point. For the quality and flavor of this premium Drew Estate cigar, you’re only going to drop in the neighborhood of $5-7. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper is going to get you a core flavor profile that includes a lot of nuttiness. The Nicaraguan long-filler and Brazilian binder bring out flavors of wood, earth, leather and something a bit sweet. Along the way you’re going to get some black pepper and even some kind of toasted bread mixed in. It’s quite the flavor journey.
While the overall quality and color pales in comparison to much of the other high end cigars in the Drew Estate line (H99, T52, No. 9), this is a nice stick overall. I found the quality of construction to be great. The ash was solid and the draw was smooth. Between the attractive price point, the great flavors and the 90 rating from Cigar Aficianado, this is a must try for all cigar smokers.
